Ongoing Programs

Volunteer Connections Program: refers individuals and groups interested in volunteering to partner agencies and schools

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program: refers volunteers ages 55 and better with affiliated partner agencies and schools; performs on-going tracking and follow up as well as recognition events for volunteers.

Schools Program: provides senior citizen tutors to area elementary schools, sends enrichment speakers to high schools, and advises students about volunteer opportunities

Non-profit Professional Development Workshops: annual seminars in volunteer management and other related management training, available to partner agency staff; enrollees may also earn volunteer management certificate from Points of Light Foundation.

Court Appointed Service Elective (CASE) Program: offers placement and referral opportunities to adult offenders who are sentenced to perform community service because of convictions for misdemeanors, traffic offenses and violations of local ordinances. Only those guilty of non-violent, non-sexual offenses are allowed to participate. A service organization has the option not to utilize a CASE client based on the person's charge. Juvenile eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Volunteering adds color to the lives of active seniors. Students from Our Lady of the Wayside School coordinated dry goods donations for for a TVC Caring Hearts Community Drive.


Special Events and Occasional Programs

Caring Hearts Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner: rewards outstanding area volunteers in categories such as youth, senior, and corporate volunteerism

Community Paint-a-thon: annual collaboration since 1987 with Catholic Charities, Valspar Coatings, and other area organizations and businesses; sends volunteer teams to paint exteriors of elderly and disabled homeowners' residences.

Emergency Preparedness Initiative: partnership with the American Red Cross to help municipalities in our service area prepare for natural or man-made disasters

Helping Hands in Action Classes: informative sessions on how to get involved in volunteerism, offered at no charge to the public through the Continuing Education programs of High School Districts 211 & 214.

Holiday Community Support Opportunities: publishes a listing promoting special holiday community needs, such as adopt-a-family programs or serving holiday meals at local nursing homes

Make a Difference Day: the nation's largest community service effort, whereby millions of Americans pledge to perform volunteer work on the fourth Saturday in October; TVC coordinates service opportunities in the Northwest suburbs and sponsors our own Caring Hearts Community Drive to collect personal care items and other goods for the clients of local shelters

The Banjo Buddies are a crowd favorite at the annual RSVP luncheon. A volunteer mentors children with the Northwest Special Recreation Association, a TVC partner agency.
