Mary Fitzgibbons
Executive Director
Mary Fitzgibbons

Mary supervises all operations of The Volunteer Center. She joined the center in January, 1992 as Project Director of RSVP and still serves in that capacity. Mary was honored as Executive Director of the Year by The United Way in 2005. "The Business Ledger" named her as one of their 2006 Influential Women in Business. Mary holds an Associate of Arts degree, a BA in Religious Studies, a Lay Ministry certificate and is a former high school teacher. She and her husband live in Palatine and have two grown children.
Chris Smith
Associate Director
Chris Smith

Chris is responsible for budgeting and programs. She started volunteering for TVC in 1997, serving as Board President from 2000-2007, and finally joined the staff in 2007. She is a former teacher, retired from Tribune Co. in 2005 and currently consults as a “grantee” coach for the Retirement Research Foundation.

Chris has an MS in Educational Psychology from University of Tennessee. She and her husband live in Rolling Meadows and have three grown children and five grandchildren.

Sarah Maple
Financial Administrator/Office Manager
Sarah Maple

Sarah administers the fiscal operations, including payroll, accounting, and budget planning and monitoring, in addition to preparing reports for federal and state agencies. She also oversees general office operations and assists with maintaining our web database, desktop publishing and other projects.

Employed August, 1993, she resides in Palatine with two daughters and is a graduate of Purdue University.

Linda McLaughlin
RSVP Program Coordinator
Linda McLaughlin

Linda recruits and refers senior volunteers (age 55 up) and tracks and reports RSVP volunteer hours. She coordinates for RSVP events, prepares data for reporting and funding requests; and handles other administrative duties. Joining the organization in November 1993, she resides in Inverness, and is married with two grown children

Annette Sommer
Volunteer Connections Program Coordinator
Annette Sommer

Annette recruits & refers volunteers of all ages. She maintains a database of over 300 volunteer opportunities and updates agency statistics. Besides working with member agencies and schools, she helps to coordinate special events. She teaches volunteerism classes, and is involved in marketing and fund-raising efforts.

Annette and her husband live in Mount Prospect with three grown children. She joined TVC in April of 1995.

Karla Micheli
Community Outreach and Development Manager
Karla Micheli, Community Outreach and Development Manager

In June 2009, she began working with TVC as an AmeriCorps VISTA, on the Strategic Action for Volunteer Engagement.  She is now focused on earned income strategies, community partnerships and marketing initiatives.

Karla resides in Chicago and has a BA in Marketing Communications from Columbia College.

Linda Trilling
Disaster Preparedness Program Coordinator
Linda Trilling

Linda is a Disaster Services Specialist and has been overseeing the Homeland Security Program since August 2004, with participation in the Palatine Citizen Corps. A Licensed Practical Nurse, Linda is trained as an emergency preparedness professional to manage spontaneous volunteers in the event of a disaster. She provides program support for volunteer recruitment and referrals.

Residing in Palatine, she is married with two grown children and two grandchildren.

Kathleen Kerman
CASE Program Coordinator
Kathleen Kerman

Kathleen began working with TVC as an AmeriCorps VISTA member for two years, beginning in February, 2007. She eventually launched the Court Appointed Service Elective (CASE) Program and has been serving on staff as the CASE Coordinator since March 2009. She is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.

She lives in Arlington Heights with her husband and two daughters. She has a BA from Mundelein College and a JD from University of Iowa College of Law.

Jackie Kelley

Jackie Kelly

Jackie is a former teacher and recruits, refers and assists with training of volunteers for tutoring and mentoring opportunities through the RSVP and VISA (Volunteer Impact for Student Achievement) programs. She and her husband live in Mount Prospect.

Jean Lamantia
Program Assistant
Jean Lamantia

Jean works with member agencies and schools to recruit and refer volunteers. She also serves as a project manager and co-manager for special events like the Community Paint-a-Thon; Make-A-Difference Day projects, Holiday Volunteer opportunities and other events. She also assists with the volunteer recognition events and marketing fundraising efforts.

Jean, husband and daughter are residents of Arlington Heights.

Scott Doniger
Technology Leadership Volunteer
Scott Doniger

Scott began volunteering with The Volunteer Center in January 2006. A retired IT professional and former business owner, he helps maintain TVC’s computers, assists staff with technology questions, and researches and recommends cost conscience software/hardware purchases. He has also been developing a mobile technology assistance program for our partner agencies and has been invaluable in working with the Points of Light Foundation to develop a new volunteer national database.
