Excellence in Volunteer Management Training Series

The Excellence in Volunteer Management Training Series (EVMTS) is a sequence of six courses on organizing and implementing an effective volunteer program in a nonprofit or government organization. The interactive curriculum is based on the newest research and effective practices in the industry, and is packaged in an easy-to-use format. This series was updated in 2010 by HandsOn Network.

The topics of the six courses that comprise the series are:

Understanding Volunteering: Exploring the Heart of the Volunteer Sector
Describes the characteristics of organizations that successfully engage volunteers, elements of a volunteer program, identify current trends of volunteering and social motivators of volunteers. The basics of risk management for organizations who use volunteers will also be discussed.

Planning Your Volunteer Program: Building a Solid Foundation
Identify the steps necessary for a successful volunteer program, including a needs assessment, mission and vision statement, roles and descriptions of volunteer positions, and more.

Recruiting and Placing Volunteers: Matching Volunteer Skills with Service Needs
Learn the steps to effectively recruit and place volunteers, develop & apply the steps, plan how to improve volunteer recruitment and placement.

Orienting and Training Volunteers: Achieving Service Excellence
Increase knowledge of the steps in training volunteers to perform their service effectively and enjoyably and develop plans for improving volunteer training.

Supervising Volunteers: Maximizing the Volunteer Experience
Increase your knowledge of the steps in supervising volunteers and the ability to design and use strategies for volunteer supervision.

Evaluating Your Volunteer Program: Improving Results Through Data and Feedback
Address the steps to plan for and improve the evaluation of your volunteer program.

Each participant receives a workbook with resources, copies of the power point slides and templates to support each unit. All attendees will have an opportunity to take an open book exam to earn a "Volunteer Management" Certificate of Achievement for completing course work successfully.

The Volunteer Center also offers an Advanced Volunteer Management Series for those with more experience.
